Remember my post about the steps to get from zero (idea) to screen? I think the same can be said for comics. What is the best way to get from zero to the page?
I recently got yet another Shonen Jump, now putting me at three issues. I guess they wanted to get me on track from the beginning, since I subscribed slightly after issue one was out. Now I have issues 1-3. Aside from all the great and popular manga inside, the greatest thing about the book is the interviews with manga creators and editors. It really gives an insight into how it all happens.
From reading said interviews and also watching an interview with Katsuhiro Otomo, creator of Akira, I see that the storyboard is king, even in the world of manga. While I yet desire to do an experimental film, skipping the storyboard phase and going to an animatic, or "video-matic" type of creation, in manga it can be the greatest thing in the world!
